Progress on Achieving Multilingual Web Literacy Basics Curriculum

Web Literacy Basics Translations

In October, we kicked off a campaign to localize our Web Literacy Basics I curriculum with a goal to have it translated into at least five other languages by Dec 31. We’re happy to report that we’ve made great progress and are 42% of the way there!

You can check out the details of which languages have been translated into the various activities, by visiting this dashboard. The dashboard also allows you to view the approved translated activities so that they can be used while we are processing them for the teach.moziila.org site.

Here are the languages finished/halfway finished:

  • Bengali – all 6 activities – COMPLETED!
  • Indonesian – 3 activities – Halfway There!
  • German – 3 activities – Halfway There!
  • Portuguese – 3 activities – Halfway There!

A huge thank you goes out to the volunteers that have put in their time and hard work to help translate the curriculum. One loyal Mozillian put together this helpful step-by-step guide to help others understand the process of translating this content using markdown and Github. Thank you, @AriefBayu! As this has been somewhat experimental, we welcome your honest feedback on our forum about what’s worked, what was challenging, and how we can make this easier and better in the future.

Github Mozilla TranslationAs the end of the year draws closer, we still have some work to do. We aim to complete translations for 4 more languages by Dec 31. (Portuguese, Indonesian and German are closest to being complete so far.) We also have 12 more Mozilla t-shirts to giveaway to community members who help us translate! It’s first come, first serve, so the earlier you submit your translation, the better chance you have of scoring one.

Can you help us reach our Web Literacy Basics translation goal? Or do you know someone else who can help?

Spread the word and let’s make Web Literacy Basics I available in more languages across the globe.
